Home Remedies to Treat Gout

Prolonged periods of swelling, tenderness, and pain in the joints are all symptoms of gout, a form of arthritis. It’s an inflammation of the joints triggered by the crystallization of excess uric acid that settles in the joints. This condition can be caused due to excessive alcohol consumption, too much stress, lack of exercise, excessive protein intake, or pure genetics.

While medication is required for treatment, natural ways to relieve gout can also be followed along with the medication. Most natural treatment methods for the condition can be incorporated at home easily:

French bean juice
Consuming juice extracted from French beans is a great way to fight gout safely and effectively. French beans prevent the production of uric acid in the blood and reduce their levels to relieve the symptoms.

Fresh vegetable juices
Carrot, beetroot, and cucumber juices are potent remedies for gout and natural ways to relieve the condition. These juices fight uric acid formation in the joints and ligaments without any adverse effects. They promote gastrointestinal health and neutralize the excess uric acid that inflames the kidneys and the bladder. This, in turn, helps relieve gout.

Activated charcoal
A potent home remedy among the natural ways to relieve gout, activated charcoal absorbs uric acid. It helps relieve the symptoms and effects of gout on the body. One needs to simply add a cup of charcoal powder to the water in a bathtub and soak themselves in it. Alternatively, they can make a paste by mixing charcoal powder and water and applying it to the affected area for effective treatment.

Epsom salt
Epsom salt is rich in magnesium and sulfur, which are absorbed by the skin easily to relieve swelling and bruising, and this method also relaxes the muscles. Unlike table salt, it cannot be consumed, but an Epsom salt bath that combines vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils is relaxing. It’s one of the most effective natural ways to relieve gout.
For an Epsom salt bath, pour 2 cups of Epsom salt into warm (not hot) water and let it dissolve completely. The heat opens the skin pores and enhances absorption, and this treatment assists in relieving gout gently, while also lowering blood pressure. If the condition affects the big toe, soaking the foot in a basin filled with warm water and a cup of Epsom salt is an effective remedy for swelling and other symptoms. Other than helping relieve the symptoms of gout and swelling, soaking in Epsom salt gives smooth and soft skin.
Having said that, pregnant women and diabetics should not take Epsom salt baths. Also, individuals with high blood pressure or heart diseases should consult a doctor before taking an Epsom salt bath.

A comprehensive approach combining medication and natural remedies helps fight gout and is also effective in preventing the possibility of a relapse.
